LITTLE BIT LOVE
Little Bit

In 2002, I took our bichon/poodle mix to get groomed.  He's Charlie, the cute black dog on the top of this page.  Next door to my groomer was a no-kill shelter.  As I was walking into the groomer's shop with Charlie, the shelter director was walking dogs nearby and called out to me - she said she had the cutest little white toy poodle that would be quite the companion for Charlie.

Of course, as a lover of all animals, I already had 2 more dogs, a cat and 3 rabbits at home.  I certainly didn't need any more pets, but what could it hurt to look?  Besides, I had a friend that was looking for a small poodle-type dog - maybe this would be the one!

I went into the shelter and was overwhelmed by all the dogs.  It was a very small facility and the dogs were going crazy, barking and howling.  The director pointed us towards the back where there were some smaller cages.  Even the smaller dogs were going nuts - all except one - Chrissy, a.k.a. LITTLE BIT.

In the cage, this small, sickly looking poodle could barely hold her head up - when she did, she had the look of complete desperation on her face.  The director allowed us to take her out of the cage and take her outside to a grassy area.  It was a cold and drizzly day in November - wintertime temperatures for Houston.  This three to four-year-old dog could barely move and was shivering.  She finally did her business and then did the cutest thing - she hopped on her hind legs begging to be picked up, just like a small child.  She immediately buried herself inside my friend's jacket.  That was it!  I knew I had to have her.

Now that I was hooked, the director told me her back story.  Little Bit was found on the Houston streets and was in pretty bad shape.  She had been picked up by the city pound and was heartworm positive.  This no-kill shelter had rescued her from certain death.

When I adopted her, she still had to go through the heartworm treatment.  She was so small and weak that she had several close calls during her recovery period.  Even after the "all clear," she ended up with several other illnesses that almost did her in.  Finally, after about a year of ups and downs, she was fairly healthy.

Needless to say, this little dog has controlled our lives and our hearts from the get-go!  She runs the house, all 8 lbs. of her!

During the last few years, we have traveled frequently for our jobs and occasionally, our schedules conflicted - it left us asking friends and neighbors to pet sit for us.  Sometimes it worked; sometimes it didn't.  In one instance, even begging didn't work - the day came when I had to kennel Little Bit.

I chose a highly reputable kennel - lots of references, spotless facilities, superb staff.  I splurged on the Executive Suite so she was a little more isolated and not so stressed by the bigger, barking dogs.  After four days, I picked up a dog that had no voice.  She had barked and cried herself mute, plus contracted a case of kennel cough (even with vaccinations!).  After two years, her voice is still not the same.  Because of this incident, I pondered a better, more reliable and stress-free solution for pet care.

Prestige Pet Services was founded with a passion for all animals, large and small.  And an understanding that most pets would prefer to stay in the routines and environments they are familiar with when their pet parents are gone.  Little Bit's kennel experience definitely proved this to me.  I started this business after many managerial years of corporate life, tired of the politics.  I was looking for a way to bring purpose and joy to my life.  What could be better than taking care of pets every day?!?!

I have always loved animals and have fostered many pets in my life.  I have participated in Animal-Assisted Therapy with my beloved dog and cat and have also done volunteer work in local animal shelters.  Through personal experience, I understand the heartache and intensive care needed when dealing with senior and injured/ill pets.  We recently lost our chocolate Lab to cancer and have many clients in various stages of life and illnesses requiring all types of care - this is our area of expertise.

In the beginning of this great journey, I knew I wanted to provide the most competent and reliable service in the area.  I know it can be unsettling to have strangers caring for your beloved pets and home.  With Prestige, you know that we will always perform your required service with the utmost professionalism and first-class care.  You can count on that.  Prestige has Little Bit's stamp of approval!

We look forward to working with you and meeting your pets.

LITTLE BIT FAN CLUB

Little Bit requires all of the attention, all of the time!   It's not unusual at all for guests to our home to carry her around during their visits.  Sometimes Little Bit insists!  And of course, Little Bit gets what Little Bit wants!  It's hard to take a picture that DOESN'T have her in it!  She has many fans!

If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend;
If you can face the world without lies and deceit;
If you can say honestly that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics;
Then, my friend, you are almost as good as your dog.
